VOLUNTEER AT FIRE & ICE

What: A lantern and ice wander including a display of luminary lanterns and ice sculpture carvings.  This event will benefit the Fox Chapel Parks Conservancy.

Where: McCahill Park on the corner of Hemlock Hollow Road and Hunt Road

How: With help from volunteers!

Volunteer Job Descriptions 

  • Pre-Event: 
  • Set up lanterns and light candles, set up small tents, tables & chairs and assist with lighting mini warming fire stations. Moderate physical activity.
  • During Event: 
  • Help monitor the flames & safety of our guests along the field.
  • Assist FC Police in providing direction/traffic flow for parking (fluorescent vests and lighted wands will be provided).
  • Distribute hot coco and snacks to guests and assist other vendors with activities. Friendly attitude is necessary and knowledge of parks/trails is helpful. 
  • Help maintain mini fire pits throughout the park. Must be comfortable with carrying wood; moderate physical labor.
  • Assist with cleaning up for the night (including breaking down tables and chairs, helping vendors pack up supplies and distinguishing the flames at the end of the event).

Volunteer Requirements: Please note this event is outside in the middle of winter at dark. All volunteers must be comfortable being outside in cold weather for an extended period of time and are expected to work during the duration of your shift. Warm clothing and insulated boots are a must. Hot coco and warming stations will be available for all to warm up. This event will take place even in the coldest temperatures, with an exception of there being rain. If rain is in the forecast, then we will cancel the event on Friday (the day before) and plan to delay the event until the following Saturday, February 4.

 

Volunteer Shifts:

Set Up: 12:30 – 3:30pm (unlimited spots)

 

During Event: 

3:30 – 5:30pm (12 spots)

5:30-7:30pm (12 spots)

7:30-9:30 (12 spots)

 

Next Day Clean-up: January 29, 10-11am (8 spots) 

*Students will receive community service hours 

*Feel free to volunteer for more than one shift. 

*An email will be sent to all registered volunteers with further assignment details and parking information.
